Texas auto liability, collision and comprehensive: compare the parts

Start with the policy language and the facts of the property, vehicle or household. General summaries help frame questions but do not determine coverage for an individual policy.
What Texas 30/60/25 means
Texas requires at least $30,000 for injuries to one person, up to $60,000 per accident, and $25,000 for property damage. These liability limits are commonly called 30/60/25. TDI cautions that the minimum may be too low for a serious crash or multiple damaged vehicles; the policyholder may be responsible for costs above the limit.
Liability is different from damage to your own vehicle
Liability generally addresses covered injury or property damage to others when you are legally responsible. Collision and comprehensive are separate coverages for covered damage to your vehicle from different causes. Medical payments, personal injury protection and uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage have their own terms and limits.
Compare the same drivers and vehicles
Use the same household drivers, vehicle identification, garaging address, annual mileage, business or commute use, liability limits and deductibles on each quote. Confirm listed drivers and exclusions. Ask what optional protections are included and what the insurer requires after an accident.

Texas requires at least $30,000 for bodily injury to one person, $60,000 per accident and $25,000 for property damage per accident. These are legal minimums, not a recommendation that they are sufficient for every driver.
What does auto liability insurance pay for?
Liability coverage can pay covered injury or property damage you cause to others, up to the policy limits. It does not pay to repair your own vehicle just because you caused a crash.
How are collision and comprehensive different?
Collision generally covers damage to your vehicle from a collision, subject to terms and deductible. Comprehensive, also called other-than-collision, can cover causes such as theft, fire or flood, subject to the policy.
